President's Message

Tax reform is a continuing hot topic with legislators seeking input on expected impacts to business. Of interest are proposed taxes on services, revisiting the sales tax on food, and the effects on general fund revenues. As a reminder, per the state constitution, all income tax goes to fund education and all sales tax which would include the proposed tax on services goes to the general fund which fund all other general government services. There is currently an imbalance on the general fund side with changes in how people purchase goods and services. Sales tax revenues continue to decline which should be addressed before it become a crisis for state funding. Our ChamberWest Legislative Affairs Committee is tackling this issue and are requesting feedback and insight from members on the potential impact of changes to especially the tax on services. Please reach out to us with any comments or concerns as it relates to any potential tax changes.
