President's Message

It’s the time of year when we reach out to ChamberWest members for award nominations for the 2020 Annual Awards Gala. Do you know a business that should be recognized or are you a business that should be considered for one of the following award categories: Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Best Place to Work, Best New Business of the Year, or Volunteer of the Year? Nominations are due by December 13th with the fillable nomination form available at Gala Nomination Form. Members of the 2020 Awards Committee will identify three finalists in each category with the finalists recognized leading up to and at the gala and the winners announced at the Annual Awards Gala on February 20th.

Don’t forget that the Saturday following Thanksgiving is Small Business Saturday. It may take a little more time, but I encourage you to spend your dollars supporting businesses in our community. Healthy local businesses provide many benefits to our local community through jobs and wages, keeping dollars in the local economy, local decision-making, supporting the well-being of a community and so much more. Take the family out to dinner and shopping for a sense of a hands-on and personal face to face time as you explore local shops. Remember the importance of shopping local!

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the 2020 ChamberWest Annual Awards Gala which is scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2020. I’m excited to announce that the ChamberWest Board of Directors and Board of Governors have selected Mayor Ron Bigelow of West Valley City as the 2020 Hall of Fame Award recipient with the award presented at the gala in February.

Upcoming program and event highlights include:
  • Business Connections with the first Wednesday of the month scheduled from 3:30 – 5:00 pm and the third Wednesday from 8:30-10:00 am;
  • Women in Business Holiday Mingle and Jingle at Western Garden Center on Tuesday, December 3rd
  • Legislative Affairs Committee Meeting, Thursday, December 5th;
  • 2nd Friday Casual Lunch, join the ChamberWest President/CEO for casual conversation on issues related to business on December 13th.

Thank you for your continued investment in ChamberWest! We value your membership, your involvement, and your insights. Please reach out to us with any recommendations on programs or communications or if you need any information. Thanks much!

Construction crews continue to work on the Mountain View Corridor from 4100 South and S.R. 201

2400 South/S.R. 201 Southwest Frontage Road
As soon as Nov. 26, a portion of the S.R. 201 south frontage road will be closed and re-aligned. The re-aligned frontage road will connect with 5600 West at 2400 South. This link will direct you to a map showing the new traffic movement.

2400 South/5600 West
Crews will begin striping the new intersection of 2400 South and 5600 West as soon as Nov. 17. This work will require lane closures on 5600 West from 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18.

2700 South
Flaggers will continue directing traffic on 2700 South between the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The temporary traffic signals at MVC and 2700 South will no longer be operating. Flaggers will direct traffic through the intersection through 2019.

3100 South
Pile driving activities are projected to begin on 3100 South on Nov. 25. These piles will provide structural support for the new bridges of the Mountain View Corridor that will cross over 3100 South. Pile driving activities are projected to continue through mid-December.

Northbound 5600 West (north of S.R. 201)
Utility work is projected to continue as soon as Nov. 20 on the northbound lanes of 5600 West. Motorists can expect traffic shifts south of S.R. 201 starting Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 10 p.m. through Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 a.m.

S.R. 201
Lane closures on S.R. 201 are projected to begin on Nov. 18 and continue through Nov. 20. The westbound inside lane between Bangerter Highway and 7200 West will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

S.R. 201 Westbound On-ramp
As soon as Dec. 3, the existing westbound on-ramp from 5600 West to S.R. 201 will be closed. The westbound access from 5600 West to S.R. 201 will temporarily be via the new 1730 South frontage road. Please check our website for updated information.

6000 West
Utility work is projected to begin on 6000 West as soon as Nov. 16. This work will require a closure of 6000 West at 3500 South from 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 through 11 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. Motorists and pedestrians will be detoured during this closure. To access 6000 West, motorists will be detoured to 4100 South via 6400 West or 5600 West.

Pedestrians using 3500 South to walk eastbound to 5600 West will be detoured south on Garden Gate Drive to 6180 West and turn head east on Brook Hollow Drive to 6000 West. Once on 6000 West, pedestrians can cross and use the sidewalk on the north side of Whittier Elementary to go east, then turn north on to access 3500 South near Hunter Park. Pedestrians will continue going east to 5700 West. At 5700 West, pedestrians will head south to 3575 South and walk east to 5600 West.

Please see the attached map for detour routes. During the work, residents may notice an increase of noise and dust. This work will not impact any utility services to homes or businesses in the area.
